Splendor Duel (Double Edition)
- Recommended age: 10+
- Number of players: 2
- Game time: 30 minutes
Back in the Renaissance era, as the leader of a premier jewelry guild, to solidify your reputation and wealth, you need to make good use of your skills and unique vision to create the most solemn and magnificent hand ornaments for various royalty and nobles.
Sparkling Gems is now available in a brand new two-player version! Designed by Marc André, the original team from SPACE Cowboys, and in collaboration with Bruno Cathala, the designer of Seven Wonders: The Duel, the two-player version adds new mechanics to the original Sparkling Gems, making it even more competitive and interactive.
Whether it's "Sparkling Gems" or "Sparkling Gems: Two Players," players take on the role of a faction, making good use of their resources to acquire sources or origins of jewels, strengthening their own power to obtain more efficient production methods, and then winning the rewards and fame of kings and nobles.
In the two-player version, the way to obtain gems is no longer to choose 1 out of 3 colors or 2 out of 1 color. Instead, you take 1 to 3 connected gems vertically, horizontally, or diagonally from a 25-square grid. This makes not only the quantity of gems you obtain more, but also the arrangement you need to think about.
In addition to the original five colors of gems, an extra pink "pearl" resource has been added. This special resource is rarer than other resources and can only be replaced by pearl indicators or gold, making pearls an important strategic resource.
These new mechanics, coupled with a decline in player numbers, add a strategic element to the "game" aspect of gem acquisition, requiring players to consider how to obtain the necessary gems and quantities at once, while simultaneously anticipating and disrupting their opponent's objectives.
The gem markers still feel great, and the new privilege markers are also very exquisite. In addition, there are some compensation privileges, various victory objectives, and extra abilities to embellish the mechanics.
The two-player version has a smaller overall box size to accommodate fewer players (but the fun is not reduced but increased). The internal storage space is well-planned, so you don't have to worry about damaging your favorite accessories after shaking or moving it. It is suitable for travel and you can have a gem battle anytime, anywhere.
Whether you've played Sparkle Jewel before or not, you can quickly pick up Sparkle Jewel Two-Player Edition. This classic series won't disappoint you. Veteran players can feel the improved rhythm and strategy, while new players can fully experience the charm of Sparkle Jewel!
